Welcome to The Silver Lake House by Leela Thai, formerly “Leela Thai Restaurant,”

which has been located in LA’s hip Silver Lake district since 1995. We are now the second

generation of a family restaurant and proudly have been one of the oldest Thai restaurants in

the Silver Lake area. 

The Silver Lake House by Leela Thai, presents home-style cooking straight from the

beautiful land of Bangkok. With an intricate combination of presentation and taste, we take you

through a whole journey of culinary excellence with Thai recipes. At The Silver Lake House, we keep our process and recipes as original as possible and ensure that our entire cuisine

emphasizes the real flavors and taste of Thailand. Our cuisine has something for everyone

regardless of spice tolerance, as we make sure we remain as inclusive as possible.

 

JARATPHONG WIJITSUNTHORNKUN (“Chef Kong”) is the second-generation chef of The Silver

Lake House. His path to culinary passion started from very humble beginnings in Samut Prakan,

10 miles outside Bangkok. Every morning he would wake up before sunrise to accompany his

grandmother to the local farmers market to select the best meats, produce, and other

ingredients for her family grocery. His Chinese background had taught him so much of the Chinese

cooking technique, and he learned Thai home-style cooking from his mother, which is a good

combination and well practiced in his own kitchen.

 

After completing a bachelor’s degree in Bangkok, Chef Kong moved to Los Angeles to study

English, with no intention of becoming a chef. One day fate seemed to have had other ideas

though. While working part-time at Leela Thai, his aunt saw something of great promise in him.

Chef Kong learned so much from his aunt about cooking and had an opportunity to meet an

owner of a well-known Thai restaurant, Bangkok, who was willing to teach and tell him

everything about their secret recipes. Also, Chef Kong went to a few Thai culinary schools for

baking and pastry. In addition to Thai food, you can find some fine desserts as well. His love of

cooking and extensive background in Thai cuisine will ensure you a wonderful experience at The Silver Lake house by Leela Thai
